BioEffect EGF Serum - A Review

BioEffect EGF Serum burst onto the UK scene around Christmas time last year. The product was developed and is made in Iceland. BioEffect EGF Serum claims to be a second generation anti-ageing serum that encourages the skin to repair itself,  to leave your skin with a healthier and fresher appearance by moisturising and at the same time inhibiting the signs of ageing.

The serum contains just 9 ingredients - EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) is the key ingredient in this product.  A substance which occurs naturally in human skin and which has the ability to speed up the rate of cell turnover within the skin.

Claims

Suitable for all skin types.
Reverses the signs of ageing.
Diminishes uneven pigmentation.
Adds radiance and luminosity.
Moisturises deeply.
Eliminates dry spots.
Improves complexion.
Approved by Dermatologists.
The only plant derived EGF in skincare**.

My Experience

When the product launched in the UK you could claim a free sample from the website and at £125 for a 15ml bottle I was delighted there was an option to try before you buy!

Since then I have seen lots of people raving about how wonderful this product has been for them and I was getting more excited about the thought of incredible looking skin, a real transformation. Some people had mentioned their skin looked different after just one use.

I was sent a 3.5ml sample bottle with a dropper to dispense. I used this last week, perhaps the thought of hitting 34 sent me rushing to my bottle.... I used it as described, after cleansing at night. I used one drop as that seemed to be plenty.

Day 1 - It felt oily and didn't seem to absorb into my skin - I woke up with greasy looking skin
Day 2 - I tried it again and again I felt that it was just sitting on my skin. In the morning I looked at my skin and again saw no difference except oily, wet looking skin.
Day 3  - I noticed spots appearing on my skin and rather than my skin glowing it just looked oily and my skin is normally normal/combination.

I am afraid that I stopped using it after this as I just didn't like how it made my skin look or feel. It started to become oily and spotty. I think it was just too rich for me. Sadly it wasn't a miracle product for me and my serum search continues.

The company says that younger skin reacts more quickly to the serum than older skin. Many people notice changes after just a few days of use such as increased glow, moisture and a more even skin tone. It takes longer for the serum to exert its effect on deeper layers of the skin and for wrinkles to be reduced.

Have you tried this product, what did you think ?

  1. Awwww, I am so sorry you didn't have a good experience with Bioeffect.

I absolutely LOVE it and won't use anything else now. It's amazing for my eye area, why don't you try it out as an eye serum instead?

  2. The main ingredient is glycerine which is a thick, gloopy substance that acts as a humectant (draws water to itself). Glycerine is an ok ingredient for dry skin but is cheap as chips. It was probably what made your skin feel oily.. I'm a big fan of EGF but nothing else on this ingredient list inspires me, and alcohol? eh?

  3. I know Farrah :-( I may give it a whirl as an eye serum but if it was too rich for my face I am not sure it will be suitable for my delicate eye area...

Mariga - I like rosewater and glycerin toner from Boots traditional range but I just wipe that over my skin, that has long been known as keeping the skin young looking and soft.

  4. Thank god I got linked to your review after mentioning on twitter this had broke me out, Must of missed seeing it as I've been a bit absent on the blog reading front atm! This has done exactly the same to me, the whole greasy, wet looking skin in the mornings, not feeling like it had absorbed and has left me with huge cyst like spots all around my chin that are so painful I am finding it hard to even apply make up over them as they hurt so bad :( xx

  5. I'm surprised that you've had such reactions from using the Serum. I've used it religiously since The Daily Mail article in January, and I have super sensitive skin, and not had any reaction at all. On the contrary this is the best night treatment I've ever used. After years of throwing money after after different brands I've finally found something which actually works. Not saying that I look like a spring chicken now, but my skin feels moisturised, and all glowy. Some days i even go without foundation. My two girlfriends use it use it as well after my recommendation and they are as fond as I.

But what works for some, might not work for others. But I can hand on heart say I truly think this product is impressive!

  7. The one thing I find really funny is that it says to use 3-4 drops of this serum and the amount of people that are using a whole dropper of the serum and then saying I can't see how the 3.5ml/5ml could last a month it would only last a week???????!!! Doh!!! You only use 3-4 little drops of the serum otherwise it will take ages to sink in and you are just wasting it! For once I actually read the instructions correctly and don't think OMG i thought! PHEW! But I must admit I love the stuff! Only been using it for 10 days but it's great and I am starting to see some results (although I don't have many lines or wrinkles! PHEW) but the ones I do have seem to have faded already! But Yikes to the price xxx

  8. Hi, this might be a silly request, but wondered if any of you who DON'T like the serum might like to sell your unused portions?

Like some others, I love the stuff but hate the price, lol
