A sachet sample of the new Clarins Ever Matte Foundation was included in the March edition of Red Magazine which I have just taken out a subscription to. I must admit I don't naturally veer towards anything that says matte - I love to have the 'glow' but I was curious enough to try it out.
Clarins describe Ever Matte Foundation as 'The perfect shine-control, balancing foundation for women looking for matte skin in any circumstance. Its plant-based "Skin Detox" complex regulates production of sebum and tightens pores. The fluid, lightweight texture perfectly melts into the skin, allowing it to breathe without any drying effect. The complexion is enhanced with an imperceptible matte veil which remains flawless from morning to night.'
This is a liquid foundation, it is really light in texture and light enough for you to feel that your skin is bare. Years ago I bought an oil free foundation designed to keep shine at bay that made my skin feel so dry when I was wearing it, this is lovely though as the skin remains feeling comfortable.
My skin is normal/combination and the sachet shade was Wheat 109 which was quite a good match to my yellow toned skin tone which is usually one or two up from the lightest shades.
Ever Matte provides medium coverage, which in reality means that if you have any redness or blemishes you will need concealer to cover it. My moles and freckles still came through which you can see in the last photo
Pleasingly, Ever Matte has that familiar fresh cucumber scent which I love (it is present in another of my favourite foundations - Skin Illusion).
As to its claims to keep you matte all day long, I can confirm that it works. I normally get a shiny nose a couple of hours after applying foundation but I wore this a whole day walking round a hot exhibition hall, navigated the transport system in rush hour, walked home from the station and then checked the mirror.. to find my makeup perfectly in place and not a hint of shine. Now that is what I call fabulous!
In fact I was amazed at how fresh I still looked at the end of the day and made me realise matte does not always equal dull. Ever Matte with a highlighter (you may not need a highlighter, I just love them) works so well to leave the skin looking bright and radiant all day whilst keeping shine at bay.
If you are looking for a foundation to keep you matte then this may very well be one to try.

This doesn't look at all as I had expected, as you say it has a nicer glow than I would have expected from a product that has matt in the name! I tend to go for medium coverage but this looks like it might be too sheer for my taste.
ReplyDeleteExactly, in this case matte = no shine.
Deletethis sounds great.. sounds a good foundation for spring/summer. will get the mag for the sample!
ReplyDeleteYou must try it Michelle, let me know what you think! x
DeleteI never usually try the sachets in the magazines but this one caught my eye and I'm now wondering why I never woke up to this before. I managed to get about 3 days out of this sample even though I had to put more on than I thought initially. The colour probably wasn't perfect, but it was natural enough to be ok. It does work, it lasts well and feels good. I tend to wear Clinique and not looking to change right now, but this may be a serious contender in the future! Need to try the Chanel precision next ...........
ReplyDeleteIt must be hard for the brands to choose a shade to pop in their sachet samples, it wasn't the perfect match for me either but it not bad at all. I am really liking Clarins right now, definitely worth considering their foundations Lisa.
DeleteI love Skin Illusion — so I need to get this one too:)
ReplyDeleteClarins do fab foundations, Skin Illusion is amazing.
DeleteI tried a sachet of this foundation which Boots kindly gave me to test. I normally buy cheaper brands that I am never really happy with and thought at 46 its time to treat my skin !!! I tried the sample over 3 days and I love it, easy to apply, fabulous coverage and stayed in place all day, but best of all is I didn’t feel I was wearing any make up. It wasn’t thick and heavy and didn’t drag my skin. Colour (wheat) was a perfect match and I had a few comments about how well I looked... I loved it and am now converted to this foundation, so I bought a mascara too !
ReplyDeleteWell if you cannot treat yourself at 46 then when can you :-) x
