Falling
Laura froze, she had been here before. This building was the
image of the one she saw every time she closed her eyes. She turned to leave
but Ben was standing behind her.
'Great idea for a first date huh?’ Pleased, he flashed her tickets
for afternoon tea at the Sky Restaurant. ‘The highest vantage point in Europe.’
Panic set in, she clutched her throat, her breath
quickening, face draining of colour. Chatting to Ben online she had fallen in
love, but the nightly premonitions of her falling to her death could not be
ignored.
‘No, I can’t.’ she gasped.
I hope you enjoyed my latest story

Fear of heights is a real thing all right.
ReplyDeletePoor Ben should've asked how she felt about heights online before arranging the date!
ReplyDeleteGo with your instincts, I say. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteGo on, Laura, they might have scones!
ReplyDeleteIt could be cold feet or it could be her subconscious screaming at her...
ReplyDeleteA battle between nightmares and dreams! My guess is she walked away.
ReplyDeleteYou've made this very believable, Bettina. If I were in Laura's shoes there's no way I'd enter that building.
ReplyDeleteI SO sympathize! Great feelings here.
ReplyDeleteYour piece made me wonder if it was just the tower or this guy Ben who is giving her the nightmares. Either way I vote for her to run. Nicely told.
ReplyDeletePremonition can be tricky. It cannot be ignored nor is it logical to continue inspite of it. If it turned out to be correct, she would not be there to tell her story. If it turned out to be wrong, she would lose a trusted friend.
ReplyDeleteDear Bettina,
ReplyDeleteIf he really loves her he'll take her somewhere close to the ground. Or she might be correct in just walking away. Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
You created well an ominous feel. She needs to listen to her dreams and walk away.
ReplyDeleteYep, its a real fear, and I think only increases with age! Good piece
ReplyDeleteShe has those dreams for a reason. As Brenda Sue says, she needs to listen to them. Jilly, Sugar on the Bee.
ReplyDeleteThis is the stuff nightmares are made of. Looks like she preferred to listen to her intuition and walked away.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is filled to the brim with intrigue.
